Happy Sunday everyone! The spring time sunshine, lighter nights and (slightly) warmer weather has inspired me to start blogging again after hibernating for the past few chilly months!
This morning, Jeff and I treated ourselves to a breakfast date at a place that is quickly becoming one of our favourites… The Grey Lady Deli in Newtown Linford.
We first visited for breakfast last month, but the spring sunshine today made our date even more special (and blogable!). Open seven days a week from 9am, we arrived just before opening time eager for a yummy breakfast. In Newtown Linford you are spoilt for choice with four tea rooms side by side, however the Grey Lady deli stands out for us; it has a welcoming, quirky charm – the kind of vibe that comes with the love and commitment of a family owned place.
The Cath Kitson esque vibe inside is instantly charming and inviting. We quickly took “our” spot by the window, looking out over the church towards Bradgate Park. The breakfast menu is so varied and caters for all appetites. Today, I chose a simple bacon sandwich and hubby (ever the sweet tooth) went for American waffles with syrup and bacon! Our breakfast was accompanied by a huge pot a tea and a soothing playlist in the background from the Kooks, to the Kasier Chiefs to Scouting for Girls.
There is a deli counter tantalisingly close to the cafe seating area displaying all of the homemade quiches, sausage rolls, cakes and locally sourced cheeses which makes it very difficult to leave without a bag full of goodies! You can also buy gift hampers and a variety of other craft gifts from the shop area – the place is so versatile and unique! I can really recommend a visit; for breakfast, lunch or even dinner on certain evenings. Check out their website for more info!
Following our Sunday morning indulgent breakfast, we headed over the road to Bradgate Park for a hike up to the war memorial. On such a clear, sunny day we were able to see the whole park spread out before us with the City Centre lurking in the distance. Surrounded by deer and other walkers, we enjoyed working off some of our breakfast and catching up after another hectic week.
If you’re in need of some “me” time, or something to do with your friends or family, I can really recommend treating yourselves to some breakfast out followed by a lovely long walk; it has been such a lovely Sunday morning and hope that we’ll get the chance to do it again very soon! (I still have to sample the rest of the menu!)
Let me know if you have a favourite local place to spend your Sundays!
Until next time
